Allan Giles
Allan Giles, our Teacher of Resistant Materials, passed away suddenly last Thursday morning.
Allan was a lovely man, very popular with colleagues and students and, because of his subject specialism, at some point Allan will have taught every child at the school over many years. Students will also remember him for leading the skiing trip over the last 15 years. Allan joined Spen Valley High School following the amalgamation of Heckmondwike and Liversedge Secondary Modern Schools in 1993. He was the last remaining teacher from Heckmondwike Secondary Modern at Spen Valley Sports College and taught at both schools for a total of nearly 23 years.
Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Allan’s family and friends at this time. Once we are aware of the family’s wishes regarding arrangements for the funeral we shall pass on any relevant information accordingly.
We will always remember Allan and would welcome any suggestions from students, parents and staff as to how we might recognise his contribution to Spen Valley Sports College. Further details about this will follow in the next few days.
